How Long Does it Take to Becoming a Radiology Tech?
Radiology Technologist students must complete a two year training program in hospital or school. G.E.D. certificate or a high school diploma is required for the entry of these programs. There are different levels of radiology technician: The One Year Program where students who are transitioning from other medical careers can obtain a certificate in 1 year. The Two Year Program which is the most common for radiology technicians and leads to certification and associates degree. The Four Year Program leading to a Bachelor’s degree and certification. Bachelor’s degree opens up more opportunities and increases your earning potential.
To obtain Certification you must pass the Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification examination after the completion of your education program. Ongoing Recertification means that you can be re-certified after 2 weeks when you are a technician. You must be committed to 24 hours of continuing education during the 2 weeks in order to be re-certified.
A technologist scans and takes images while a radiologist reads scans along with x-rays, MRI, CT and flouro cases. Radiologists take a 4 year degree plus 4 years of medical school, another 2 years of residency and 2 years of fellowship
Ultrasound technician school goes from 6 months to 2 years depending on the program into which you enroll although a degree is not offered in the 6 month program. Radiology requires a graduation from a medical school and 3 to 5 years of residency. In order to become a technician and work in the field of Ultrasonography, you need a bachelor’s degree in x-ray and which is also available in U.T.
It takes 8 years since you have to pass medical school and then specialize in radiology for another 2 years without including your internship. A radiologist is a doctor and becoming an x-ray technician in ultrasound takes about 4 years. Most of the programs are 2 years long and after completing your general education requirements, you will graduate with an A.S. You should be offered a B. Sc although most of the programs are not offered at community college level.
